The screw locking ring on this hood enables you to use a polarizing filter on the lens. The Canon shade, a bayonet, makes turning a polarizer almost impossible. The Canon probably is a better shade -- double the depth of this one, but not if you want handy use of a polarizer. -- Handy feature
